Cycling the Autumn Lanes

I decided last week that I would cycle the 23 (and a half - very important that half) miles from Tomich to Muir of Ord. Well it was a beautiful autumn day and the sun was shining down so I set off at midday. Now do you think that my other half offered to lend me his super-sleek, ultra lightweight, retro Nigel Dean road bike for the trip or did I have to struggle along on my semi-lightweight, thick tyred Orange mountain bike? I'll leave you to figure that one out but suffice to say I arrived in the Muir at 1.45 with aching legs and rosy cheeks. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey and the autumn hues were cracking. We are so lucky around Tomich that the traffic even on the roads is minial, leaving you to enjoy the wildlife along the route. I'm not sure when I will be doing it again but it all helps for keeping in shape.

Once again I am full of good intentions and really aiming to get to grips with the whole 'social media' whirlwind. I seem to be able to manage a once a year entry on this blog and am hoping to improve that to at least once a week. Yesterday I managed to reply to a 'Tweet' from June - just fantastic......

Winter Wonderland

A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all visitors - past, present and future - from all the staff at Tomich Holidays. We have managed to pre-order the fine festive weather for the Christmas season, which will be a relief to those families spending Christmas in the Cottages. With the full moon sparkling down on the crisp white snow, there surely cannot be anywhere more scenic than Tomich. It looks as though, we have been lifted straight from the set of the latest Narnia film, either that or Dr Zhivago is making a comeback.

Facebook 500 Quest

We are still attempting to improve our social networking skills and now have our Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Blog sites up and running. We were quite pleased to have attracted over 60 FANS to our facebook site, until that is I visited the Wilderness Scotland facebook page and saw they had over 470 FANS.

Although we are struggling with the concept of fans, having survived for 40+ years without, we are soldiering on and determined to prove that even self catering accommodation can appeal to the socially interactive.

Our goal now is to try for 500 fans before Christmas 2010. Oh this is no April Fool (eventhough it is 1st April). So please help us by encouraging friends, family and distant acquaintances to join us by clicking the title link. In future we will be using our Facebook page to publish special self catering holiday offers, holiday discounts. last minute deals and news from Guisachan and Tomich.

Oh and just incase you were wondering it is SNOWING again.

Self Catering accommodation opens for 2010 season

Saturday 20th March saw the opening of the 3 star self catering Wooden Chalets, along with the indoor heated swiming pool at Tomich Holidays. The 4 star Courtyard Cottages and 3 star Victorian Dairy have remained open during the whole year, enduring the wonderfully white winter.

Our ongoing maintenance programme for the accommodation has seen the Chalets equipped with new leather sofas and coffee tables, complete with a brighter makeover for the lounge/diner. Regular visitors will notice new carpets in some of the chalets and kitchen worktops in others.

Behind the scenes Donnie and Joyce continue their 'greet and meet' service for new arrivals, offering plenty of advice about where to go, what to do with the wee ones and where to have a decent meal. This will be Donnie & Joyce's final year as they are both retiring in 2011, so be sure to wish them well when you leave Tomich.

We look forward to seeing holidaymakers in 2010, whether returning guests or new guests.

Social Media & E-Tourism Presentation

Last night I went to a great presentation by Rene Looper (Hi Rene) from TuMinds about how to keep customers connected through the various e-tourism and social media channels. There I was thinking about my poor neglected blog site and have resolved to keep much more up to date. I am sure that plenty of self caterers and accommodation providers from Loch Ness to Glen Affric are busy this morning creating their blogs, updating their facebook pages and tweeting.

I started the year intending to refresh my blog twice a week and create new facebook fans. Its the same every Christmas when I get my new diary (shots of Paris for 2010 by the way). January is fairly solidly filled, entries in February are more scattered and I think March is fairly non-existent. Rene has definitely inspired me to be more diligent so keep watching.

Winter Welcome from Tomich

WELCOME TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF BLOGGING

Apparently this is how all businesses should be communicating in the 21st Century, so here goes .............. Wish us luck as we haul Tomich into this brave new world ................

Well the outlook remains white in the Highlands of Scotland. Last week saw temperatures of -20 and a trip along the road to Beauly (at -8) seemed quite tropical. The icicles are beginning to melt off the rooves, so we are watching where we walk to avoid being impaled. Never a pretty site.

The self catering cottages here at Guisachan Farm remain open. Pipes are surviving the freeze and now the thaw, fingers crossed. The mountains of Glen Affric offer stunning views for holiday makers and there are ample opportunities for children to enjoy the winter weather.

I am off to post this now and see how my first attempt looks. Gina PS wintry photo attached too.
